Pre production

Pre production of Achchamundu! Achchamundu! took off smoothly and our office looks like a battle place. We have our production crew working on most of the important things. Srini, our producer and Anju, AD they both are still in India waiting for their stamped passports. Ram, our producer is pretty much waging the war of handling things, people etc. etc right now. I am having great time with our Editor, N.P.Sathish who is working on few things regarding post production set up and edit ideas. N.P.Sathish is the editor who has edited some of the classics like ‘Mahanadhi’, ‘Devar Magan’, ‘Kurudhipunal’ and ‘Chachi 420′ and just chatting with him gives lot of energy and insights about film industry. Prasanna, the lead actor of Achchamundu! Achchamundu! is finally here in NJ! He just finished his first driving lesson today and had lots of fun it seems. I will upload some pictures soon. See ya all soon!

  1. All the very BEST for the film to be a great success. Looking forward to see the pictures.

  2. hey arun..well the stills look great..is it by any chance a spooky thriller?..where r u guys filming specifically in NJ?..i live in NJ..might as well drop in..u never know

    I’m a big movie buff..oh did i miss quality..
so are you planning to have songs in the movie..
I was wondering why do directors waste money on shooting very ordinary song sequences ..which does not even linger in our memories..rather why cant they save up that money and use it to improve the quality of the movie..

do u really think the song which featured 7 wonders from the movie jeans was worth it?..how many of us were really awe struck by it and stil keep thinking about it..

It is my beilief that a good movie is an output of smart planning and adept resource allocation. If graphics is a big thing in the movie i wold suggest cut the cost on shooting mindless song sequnces, try to blend the songs with the movie in the form of back ground score..

for example hindi movie johnny gaddar was slick and has decent sound track…and u do come across the songs but in form of background score..

i think we seriously need a change from the mundane ways in which movies are being filmed. I hope you can bring in some sensible changes, because it only hurts me to see big movies like sivaji which ropes in crores and crores of ruppes only to come out with a bad story worser screen play..and stupid dialouges..

probably the movie is a run away hit, but is it truly a hit in terms of quality and sensibility, i just quoted sivaji for example, youa nd i know there are more movies in the list..

if there is someway you can maintain a sensibility in the movie and yet maintain ur commercial aspects it wil be awesome. people these days do expect that and they are let down big time.

I hope you can do something new..i will probably be watching this blog a lot more…this is a smart move..

    good luck
    vik

  3. hey..this sounds good , to hear whats happening up there in the furnace !! keep writing and keep ur cool too … !!

  4. Look forward to seeing your movie. Wow driving lessons sounds really interesting. Seems like a lot of back up work and preparation for the movie. Hope you complete it successfully.

  5. Looking forward to see some good
    ORIGINAL background music
    ORIGINAL screenplay &
    ORIGINAL dialogues

these r the main things that 99% of tamil films lack now. Tamil movies have decent quality. If only they come up with original ideas, we can survive.

ALL THE BEST to u and ur team.

  6. hey!!

yes we are still here and dying to get there to take on some of teh work :D and to guru and vik — yes Achchamundu! achchamundu! will be def be what you are looking at! hope to see you all at NJ very soon. and wish us all the luck we need !!!

  7. Dear Arun,

Good job so far!!! Change is always good. Am just a sincere tamil film industry fan. Off late, i’ve learnt how difficult its to even start shooting for a movie. So, hats off to you to have entered into this great attempt.

And Mr. Vik. The people who watch tamil movies are very wide in number. Studies say that only 3-5% of the film goers have the same expectations as yours. When people see Rajini on screen, they don’t expect the same from him as hollywood film buffs expect from Tom Hanks. So, it’d be nice if you just pool in comments about this movie. Having spent more than 80 crores on Sivaji and not having songs and dialouges which u call stupid would have sent AVM to the roads in terms of returns. I hope you understand one thing. In Kollywood, its very very difficult to make new attempts with leading stars like Rajini as the fans have different expectations. I hope Arun accepts with me.

If not, it would be great if you could explain to me why these problems like stereo type movies are occuring. Also, what are the problems you faced while casting for this movie in your next blog. Did you write the script with Prassana in mind?? I like him a lot. Azhagiya Theeyae, Kanda Naal Mudhal and Anjathey were good!!! Wasn’t satisfied with Sadhu Mirandal though. Hope he comes out well again in AA.

    All the best once more.

    Thanks and Regards
    Sriraj Vaidyanathan

  8. hey wat s all about the film..!!

    it s a thriller..or off emotional subject..

  9. When is ur movie gona be released?

  10. @sriraj…this is where all the problems start..”in kollywood you canot make changes”..the point is there is something called a standard of sensibility that has to be maintained..i never denied sivaji is a hit, u said it made money to AVM and all that..hey fine by me, but the point is moviegoers can onlly accpet what is given to them, so u fill the list with crap evetually crap becomes a standard..u see what am saying..u can still make a stupid movie and get away with it becayse stupidity is what we have all been exposed to in a majority way..

how long are they going to make people belive the star in the screen is actually going to help everybody in real life?..defenitely rajini s a great star defly 80 crores is a woophing budget..the point is why waste 80 crores on things that r so stupid..uif ur looking at raising the starndard of the movie use that money smartly..big budget movies wuld make big money because they come with a good starcast so ppl wuld come see it anyway..

but is this what we want to settle for..is it bad to expect some standard and quality..

o by the way am just sharing my vewis with arun so hopefuly my feelings resonates with his and may be he can make a movie like i expect..call me selfish..do i sound like i care?

  11. Hi Arun!

how r u? hope ur all good! the stills are looking well good!!! everything i’ve read abt the film is unique…prasanna n sneha combo, a full tamil film shot abroad and now an english villian and now the director’s bloggin 2 keep us all eager fans updated…..how better can it get!

innovation is what’s been lackin in tamil cinema for so many years…but i have an intuition that AA is gonna b one of those films that will remembered for many years to come like paruthi veeran and mozhi…

good luck with everything n pass on my wishes to all the team members!!! and please say a personal hi to prasanna…i’m his no1 fan…talk abt subtle acting!!!!

take care n keep us updated!

    Rahini :)

  12. Hey Vik..

I’m sorry if i’d made it sound like rude or anything. You live in the US and you are able to rate bad movies in tamil movies easily bcoz you are exposed to good movies… I’m a lover of good movies too…

We can blaim the directors for this because they are in most cases totally helpless. Thats the reason why great Indian directors like Mani Ratnam, Asutosh Gowariker produce their own movies.

Since you had mentioned Sivaji, i gave you an example too. Please don’t come to a conclusion that i loved a movie like Sivaji a lot. Of course, to see Rajini in screen was a great experience.. but there were stereo type things in the movie. Accepted!!! And as you said, i had also mentioned that we’d better discuss about this movie from now on.

Am sorry once more. No hard feelings. You definitely didn’t sound like you did care.

And sorry Arun for using this blog to argue with others.

    Regards
    Sriraj Vaidyanathan

  13. Hello Guys..

    Late joinee.here!!!..

Guys..who are criticising sivaji for the budget….and churning out a bad movie…
I happened to watch that making of sivaji dvd and few other details about sivaji…
I think movie has given several new lives for several people in the form of technicians, people who did things to support the creation of the movie……
just a different perspective…what do u guys think??

I think sivaji more than perfectly addressed all the demands of its TARGET AUDIENCE.
Isnt that a basic requirement for any thing u want to do????..

I am sure i can start blaming the screenplay or any other thing about sivaji if i start comparing to films that u are talking about….. But I am one of those millions of people who thouroughly enjoyed sivaji…..and every penny that i spent on first day first show premier of sivaji is completely worth it…

and for guys who are discussing about movies without songs….I totally disagree with that comment…I can accept it as different kinds of movies….Why dont we accept songs as a form of entertainment…?…and about seven wonders song..
I still watch those kinds of songs on and off…..and who said people were not awestruck…!!!!… I know several other people including me….enjoyed those…paticularly that song and kannodu kaanbadellam song with all those skeleton graphics from jeans were the highlights of the movie..!!!…I cannot forget those experiences even now…and it inspired me to do lots of things….

  14. Hi,

I am more passionate to the movies and also I know how difficult it was to take and
Release the movie in this current market condition. Good Job Arun & Production Team!!!!!!

As Sriraj mentioned, seeing Rajini in the screen was really great experience. Every actor has their own style. Again Rajini is Rajini….Hope everybody know what this means.

Welcome Prasanna to NJ, Sorry Little India – USA. Recently I saw Kannum Kannum, he proved that he can also do family type (responsible) role. I like him a lot especially in Sadhu Mirandal, Anjathey (Anjathey suppose to be excellent) the role and look was totally different compare to all his previous films. Hope he will come back in different look again in AA; let’s wish him good luck in his new assignment.

Arun and Production Team - ‘Wish you good luck and all the best’

    Thanks & Regards
    Sridhar, NJ USA

  15. HI! I can;t w8 to c ur movie! is it going to be a thriller??? How come no one shoots movies by the midwest or westeren, southeren side??? please tell directers to do ovies over here!! good luck on ur movie! cant w8 2 c it!

  16. can you please let us know where u r canning in NJ?? may be people like me can drop in ( provided it wont disturb the shoot) and can have some moments to cherish.
    Thanks.

  17. im never against songs in movies, but u dont have to picture a song in the movie just because u recorded it..classic example..another big budget mindless movie kuruvi..they just made 5 song videos and just abruplty pasted them in the movie just because they had to..it was already a bad expirience watching that movie and and on top of that they come ad slap you with stupid song sequences abruptly. they mess with the flow of the movie..

and the point that sivaji could have given new lives for several people..beautiful..but which people?..an animations team from us..a make up team from us..song locations in foriegn countries…wow where is the money going to..?..every where else besides to our own technicians..

big budget movies mean denial of opportunity for aspiring and exisitng local technicians. as more and more big budget movies come out they would become a standard and importance would be given to a huge starcast and location and clothing which are just secondary factors.

kannodu kanbadhellam was a good pick you are right, but the song blended with the movie. how many times have u seen songs which are pictured in the streets of foreign countries..does it make sense? i mean u go all the way to a foriegn country and picture the sequences in the streets? hell why cant we just do it in indian streets..let me break down the expenses here..money to trpanport the crew, money to accomdate the crew, money to feed the crew, money to get permits to the crew, money you pay the govermment to shoot in those locations, money to pay for the foregn technicians for what..to picture it in the streets or beautiful locations else where..

the real talent is what u capture int he camera and what do u do with it after u capture it. the kind of camera u use to capture it, the technicalities involved in altering the scenes and shots by using technology to create a pleasent or the needed effect..classic example ayudha ezhuthu for siddarth all scenes were blue in shade for madhavan it was kind of reddish and fr surya i believe its green, now they didnt have to goto a place that gave green aura or blue aura they just altered the footage after they shot it, same way u dont have to search for colorful locations in one corner of the world, u can create them right htere in the studio..

how long are we going to say as long as the masses are satisfied we r ok?..that is very discouraging for contemprary directors..grandness is in our hands and our minds not in far off locations

  18. Hello Vik..

I dont mean to offend your ideas..I just want to give my perception as part of a healthy discussion..

–another big budget mindless movie kuruvi–
First and foremost thing i wud like to say is. Bad movies happens everywhere…
People do wrong things everywhere …
For more clarity…take songs like Vala meenukum, Manmadarasa Dhanush, Even pokkiri pongal ..Didnt u enjoy those?..I am sure we enjoyed those songs….There are several movies those are hit because of songs…..but again…I can see there are several movies with music videos pasted in to it abruptly…Tell me how many movies are hit like that…Kuruvi is a flop..everyone knows that…. It might run for few days because pokkiri was a hit for vijay and he has his star value…
I know many people hate having kuthu songs…but i think those are very important and those are our originality of south indians…..and we shud encourage and appreciate quality kuthu songs like i told before….

    —an animations team from us—
FYI.. in the DVD i saw…there were lots and lots local south indian people getting appreciation for their contribution for the movie not any other foreigner…
I think it is some silver jubilee funtion of sivaji…
and again…I totally disagree with you if you are saying we should not use any of the talents outside india…… If u want a world class quality product you need to go to the world… even that increases the exposure of our local talents by taking our movies to a different level…..

Picturising in a foreign location…it depends ..if the outcome is really good…its ok to go anywhere thye want…..
I know several manirathnam movies…they show indian locations very beautifully…
In that perspective…we cannot just say that we should use only tamil nadu locations for our movies… u can produce a whole movie with just one room or u can also produce one song with all seven wonders of the WORLD…Those are different types…All the people you blame are those incompetent people who does things because someone did it…..

    And about your last comment..

Classes and Masses are not different for quality ENTERTAINMENT..

Quality Entertainment is all we need..
    NOT THE FOLLOWING
    Movies without songs
Only with Songs that blend with the movie
Songs picturised in foreign locations unnecessarily
    Movies without kuthu songs
Movies which are color manipulated to get the feel…

Again…that is my perception…I dint mean to question your ideas…
