Triggerstreet member reviews for Powercut

Powerful

Well done. The tension builds perfectly throughout. Your cinematography was excellent. The ending left me wanting to see more. My only complaint is that this piece was too short for what it is. A longer format may do your story better justice. You have a flair for drama and it comes across in your work. -- By nearmiss, Posted on Saturday, July 23, 2005

Good good
Really good. I liked the intro. The music was creepy, so that’s a plus. Like how they didn’t show the girls face when she was looking in the mirror. Really kept my interest. Some parts were too dark, but that could just be from uploading it. Clever ending. Really nice, short and sweet. -- By manicthemes, Posted on Friday, February 11, 2005

I Like It
This was more of a scene than a film, but it had my full atention though out and I was surprised and shocked, and wanting more at the end of this short film. I have a few questions, such as her being pregnant was that somehow part of the story, or was it just that the actress happen to be expecting when this was shot. I liked the music, good camera work and good acting by the mother to be. Well done. -- By filmwavecom, Posted on Monday, January 3, 2005

Interesting Angle
Well, I would have never thought possible that anyone in any Western society would benefit from a power cut. Was I wrong! Nice idea Mr Vaidyanathan, well done. Your short was clever and delivered quickly. The ending twist (which I won't reveal) is a good one. I liked the fact you did not show any face for virtually the whole short. Technically it was ok. Some nice shots (in particular the man with knife's reflection on the wall,) though I don't know if there were problems when uploading the short on TS. It looked like the aspect ratio was wrong. The music, that was perfect, have a great care of your composer for he did an excellent job (well, I didn't quite like the music after the twist, but everything before that was really good.) Nice one, keep up with the good work. -- By matteo prezioso, Posted on Monday, December 13, 2004

POWER CUT
Short and direct to the point. It was luck for the power outage. The sound and camera angle was nicely done. Some scenes a little dark. Not much acting here to rate since this film is a little short. Not bad though. The only problem I have is it could of been longer with more suspense. Other than that great work. -- By KGHOST, Posted on Sunday, January 4, 2004

Blind luck!
This short did an excellent job of relaying a story in less than 3 minutes. The soundtrack was great and really helped set the mood. I like how this short showed that what is usually percieved as a weakness (blindness) can also be a strength in certain scenarios. The shot with the reflection of the knife while the intruder was coming down the stairs was great. However some of the scenes could have had better lighting, that is before the power outage. Great effort!! -- By bryanapplegate, Posted on Wednesday, December 3, 2003

Dark
I like this little short, a pretty original idea photographed beautifully. A nice touch in the beginning with the tinny music - I was thinking there must be something wrong with the music then I realized I was hearing it through the headphones. The killer twisting the knife was great, and I loved the total momentary blackout. Nice little twist at the end. Definately tension created with the pregnant woman being the target for a murder. Well done. -- By Spodaking, Posted on Tuesday, November 11, 2003

Cut the Power.
The music grabbed you...and not showing the faces worked well. I think you spent too much time carrying the knife and not enough time on the...Power Cut. I got confused of where each of the characters were located inside the house. The ending was good...it left you thinking about what it must be like...to be blind. -- By TheNCRGuy, Posted on Monday, November 10, 2003

Wonderful
Great music, great mood and great idea...loved the way the story unfolded. Unlike your earlier film..i found this to be really exciting work and you definitely have the talent to do something bigger. The score was fantastic and basically holds the story together. And the twist at the end was good as well....but there is always scope for improvement. Like with the technical aspects....i think camera compositions could have been improved..but great work guys. -- By atrips, Posted on Monday, November 3, 2003

Perfect Idea for a Short
I thought this was the perfect concept for a little short. The idea was interesting and was excuted with grace. After reading the productin notes I can actually say I see the concept in a different light. It makes it even more clever. Overall I thought the idea was just really neat. Short films have to establish things fast and move fast and get directly to their point and this film shows that it's director knows how to do just that. In addition to that the soundtrack was also very intersting hats off to that person. Keep up the good work! -- By shack, Posted on Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Darkness....
I thought this was a great premise. The score was good and most of the cinematography was fine apart froma shaky moment here and there. The lighting was great as was the editing. This film is like a cousin of another film by achalam as it touches on some of the same themes (home invasion, blindness) but I think it needs some more developing. I'm not sure how but I think there would be more tension if the periods of darkness could be expanded upon with an ensuing game of cat and mouse. Or something. -- By doonae, Posted on Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Interesting
I was surprised with the ending and I didn't see it coming. At first, I thought it will be another film with a bad three-act structure. In fact, it didn't need to show the reason why this guy was going there either to kill or to rob. It was all about the good fortune for the ones we think they're not. Good twist! We always feel sorry for those who are physically disable. In this case, it was a blessing that she was blind otherwise things would turn inot tragedy. I really liked it! It is hard to come up with a solid story when it's a short film. In this case, they knew how to do it and they kept the "KISS" system. Well done! The score was powerful and played well with this short film. Overall, this film is very good and they did a good job! -- By frankiel, Posted on Sunday, October 12, 2003

Powerful Cut
Good idea Arun! I never saw what was coming (Yes, Lizzie is right, I was good and didn't read the production notes, but it would so spoil the movie if people read it first...so change your details-it's easy to do-I do it all the time). I loved the music and I one thing that I didn't understand was completely explainable later - so patience is a virture..unfortunately reviewers aren't good at that game! Good job. -- By DonaldD'Haene, Posted on Saturday, October 11, 2003
